Confucius Temple

Confucius Temple is situated on the bank of Qinhuai River with an area of 1160 acres, embracing ancient constructions and classical views.

As the name suggests, Confucius Temple is the core of the area that is generally called Fuzimiao. It’s first built as the highest institution of the academy dating back to 337 A.D.. The Confucius Temple was newly constructed on its site in 1034 A.D., which was meant to honour the memory of Confucius. The temple and related buildings that people visit nowadays are all rebuilt in latter-day, including the temples, gardens and halls since they have been destroyed many times in the last thousands of years. Zhan Garden is the oldest garden in Nanjing, which has a history of over 600 years since the Ming Dynasty. The Porcelain Tower of Nanjing is standing outside the ancient circumvallation, reputedly as the first Buddhist temple in southern China but formerly known as Jianchu temple which was built in 238 A.D.. The area becomes even special at night, when the river and buildings are all illuminated colorfully.
