Overview
Signal Hill is one of the few hills that stands in the urban in the southeast of Qingdao. Because of its vital strategic significance, the hill was the first place to be taken when German invaded Qingdao in late 19 century. The German army have set up the first radio station in the hilltop, as a command base to control the bay.

Mountaineering is never a selling point of this place. It’s more about sightseeing which is accessible. All along the main path, it may took you 20mins to hit the hilltop since the Signal Hill is at an elevation of only 98 meters. Right at the top are three buildings shaped like some red mushrooms. A rotating observatory gives you a 360°view of the area, including the seas and the surrounding German buildings. Some of the famous tourism locations are visible from here which are within short walking distance from the Protestant Church and the mansion of German Governor.
